Free Homeschool Resources: Mom Delights and Internet Gems

In this post I hope to showcase some free homeschool resources you can find on this website, as well as my favorite free resources from all over the Internet.

You may not even know about the free resources here at Mom Delights. Just visit the “freebies” section to see the entire list, but below I will give you a few highlights.

First of all, I would like to suggest printing out the homeschool guide:

In this guide you will find some basic instructions along with lists of books and resources (mostly free).

Along these lines, there are some examples of possible schedules as well as some assignment sheets which you can download and use.

Here are some other downloads which you can use for free with your children:

  • To the Top reading program. This one I developed out of great need. I have had children who taught themselves to read by the age of seven, and other who didn’t catch on until they were in their early teens. After trying many different methods with my struggling learners, I decided to put the ideas of Ethel Bouldin, author of An Acorn in My Hand (no longer in print), into practice. The results were amazing, so I thought I would take what I’d learned from Bouldin and combine it with other ideas which were also successful and turn it into an actual reading program. I hope and pray this is a blessing to others all over the world (including my own grandchildren).
  • Happy Times Primer. This was developed to use with the To the Top reading program. It is based on a reader printed around the same time as the original McGuffey Pictorial Primer and follows a similar pattern. I simply took the text, reformatted it, and added in some vintage illustrations from Clipart ETC. My hope is that this will help those who either cannot afford to purchase the McGuffey’s primer, or are in a foreign country where this primer is not available.

There is so much more I could share! Assignment sheets, lesson pages, recording pages, notebooking page packs, and on and on. I hope you will take a few minutes to peek in and find something that can help you on your homeschool journey.

Now for other Internet sources for free materials:

Heritage History. This one is so amazing–I’m so thankful to God for the people who maintain this site! This is a site dedicated to studying history with vintage literature. They offer historical summaries, outlines, maps, and free downloadable (and printable) books. You could bring your children through almost all the history they will ever need via this website.

Project Gutenberg. This is a site with over 70,000 vintage titles, including loads of classics. They are offered in different file formats, which can be confusing. It helped me tremendously to read this information offered by Rosegate Harbor so that I could format and print out some books which were quite pleasant to read.

Internet Archive. I have found some great titles on this site that were not available elsewhere, or at least were not searchable. Some titles are only available as a borrow, sort of like a digital library. Other books are free for download (many of them Google books).

Here are some science examples from Internet Archive:

Lastly, Google Books has been a treasure trove for me in my homeschooling journey. I have spent countless days combing through all of the different titles offered there, and I have spoken of these in multiple posts and videos. You can find about some of the math resources in this post.

There is so much more to share, and another post is needed to help plan with these free materials.

Meanwhile, I have done a video with visual examples which you can access by clicking below:
