This post will address grocery budget slashing techniques from a mom of 15 children.
We don’t have to be afraid of the future; God is our supply! Consider this scripture:
Though the fig tree may not blossom,
Nor fruit be on the vines;
Though the labor of the olive may fail,
And the fields yield no food;
Though the flock may be cut off from the fold,
And there be no herd in the stalls—
Yet I will rejoice in the Lord,
I will joy in the God of my salvation.
The Lord God is my strength;
He will make my feet like deer’s feet,
And He will make me walk on my high hills.
Habakkuk 3:17-19
And here is another:
Then He said to His disciples, “Therefore I say to you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat; nor about the body, what you will put on. Life is more than food, and the body is more than clothing. Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds? And which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature? If you then are not able to do the least, why are you anxious for the rest? Consider the lilies, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; and yet I say to you, even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. If then God so clothes the grass, which today is in the field and tomorrow is thrown into the oven, how much more will He clothe you, O you of little faith?
“And do not seek what you should eat or what you should drink, nor have an anxious mind. For all these things the nations of the world seek after, and your Father knows that you need these things. But seek the kingdom of God, and all these things shall be added to you.
“Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.
Luke 12:22-32
So, when we are talking groceries, especially if we have a lot of little mouths to feed, we are going to have to start with faith.
Here are two maxims I found in Charles Spurgeon’s Treasury of David that have helped me tremendously while rearing our 15 children:
- Where He sends mouths, He sends meat.
- “Murmur not”, said an Arab to his friend, “because thy family is large; know that it is for their sakes that God feeds thee.“—Adam Clarke.

I hope you are able to glean some information that will help you as you navigate all of the inflation and shortages some of us are experiencing!
